Fabio Capello believes David Beckham over, Paul Scholes too old
Fabio Capello has supposedly broken his own golden rune by explaining why David Beckham was not called back for national duty.
In an interview after England’s match against Hungary, the Italian apparently clarified that David Beckham would be taking some time off from the national team and was not needed in the squad anymore.
Capello’s comments brought scathing criticism as everyone felt that he had been disrespectful to one of England’s greatest footballers.
Capello responded to this negativity against him by calling Beckham and says that the two are on good terms now.
Capello confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes wants nothing to do with the national team anymore.
The English team plays Bulgaria in the next match at Wembley. One week later, England plays Switzerland for the Euro 2012 qualifier match. Capello was keen to confirm that he has selected a young team which will play in the upcoming matches.
When inquired about Beckham, Capello explained that he needs to recover from a very serious Achilles injury to play the game. Beckham should then monitor him before England could confirm anything he opined.
Capello continued by saying that the door to the national team was always open for player’s like Beckham. However, Capello is focused on giving the younger lot a chance to play as they are the future of English football.
The English manager continued by saying that he needs to prepare the ‘Three Lions’ for the Euro 2012 and it will be hard for some players to play due to their age factor and Beckham will be 36 by then.
Capello is under a lot of pressure from the English FA. It is believed that if the English team does not score at least seven goals in the first three Euro 2012 qualifying games, it will be game over for the Italian.
Even after the 2010 World Cup’s embarrassment, Capello believes that he has not suffered any personal abuse and says that he goes around the city and fans are kind to him.
No matter how poorly England performs, Capello is still the boss.
While commenting about leaving the team after the World Cup debacle, the Italian manager believed that he is a fighter; he fought for this job and got it.
Capello says that he has recognized the threat that Bulgaria poses England. Moreover, while comparing matches against Belgium, Italy and Russia, Capello described the Swiss team as being “always dangerous” when playing on home soil.
Capello deflects all talks about his supposed successor and says that the FIA choose him and he is only focused on his job.
Capello got annoyed when he is accused to having communication problems with the team due to the fact that he is not very fluent in English. Initially, he used to laugh it off but now gets annoyed and defends the accusations vigorously.
The manager opined that Scholes was a brilliant player but believed that he was too old to be playing for the national team, the Premier League or the Champions League.
The English manager further stated that Beckham should try to take up a career in management as he is an intelligent man with a lot of experience.
