Capello, an Italian national, managed the Three Lions for almost 4 years, before quitting from the post on a rather acerbic note after developing differences with the Football Association.
His void was then filled up by Roy Hodgson in May, just at the eve of the European Championships. The Englishman’s appointment was earlier backed by the Manchester United star, who mentioned that the team were experiencing communication problems with Capello
and were finding it easier to respond to Hodgson’s instructions.
However, following the Three Lions quarterfinal exit at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 on Sunday night in a game in which Rooney failed to make any significant impact, the 66-year old lashed out at the striker over his performance and taunted him by saying that the
only language that he understands is that of his Manchester United boss of Scottish origin, Alex Ferguson.
He told the reporters in an interview, “After watching the last game, I think that Rooney only understands Scottish.”
The win for Italy meant that they will now square off against one of the pre-tournament favourites, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 in the semis on Thursday.
Capello admitted that even though he was impressed with his country’s performance in the quarterfinal, he felt that they were still short of a quality striker who can apply the finishing touch and need to avail from their chances against the DFB-Eleven.
He added, “Italy played a great match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, but the Azzurri have a problem: they need a great striker that can finish the huge amount of chances they are making. However, I think it's right that Prandelli will continue with [Mario] Balotelli and
[Antonio] Cassano up front against the Germans.”
He went on to claim that Andrea Pirlo and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giorgio-Chiellini-c14963, who missed out on the action against England, will be the key for Italy defensively in the semi-final.
In their head-to-head series, Italy leads Germany by 14 wins to 7 while 9 matches ended in a draw. Both the teams played out a 1-1 draw in their last meeting in February 2011.
