Cesare Prandelli’s men went through the qualifying stage of the European tournament with ease, but the arising turmoil regarding form, injuries and scandals suggest that their trip to the Euro finals could prove be a bumpy ride.
Capello admitted that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 have been very unfortunate to be hit by injury problems that they were not anticipating.
The Azzurri will have to hit the ground running as they are faced with the reigning World and European champions http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in their first match of the tournament.
The former England manager stated that he considers La Roja to be the favourites for the European crown, and insisted that a tough first match will not help the Nazionale’s cause.
The Italian squad visited Auschwitz recently, and Capello believes that the trip can have a both humbling and calming effect on the Azzurri players.
While talking to the press, the 65-year-old said:
“Unfortunately Italy have had injuries and problems that they were not expecting. That will not help, especially as they will start against Spain whom I consider to be favourites for the competition. However, I’ve seen that the
side has regained some tranquillity after their visit to Auschwitz. It is a place which brings you back down to earth.”
Italy have a history of doing well in the face of adversity, as they won their two World Cups in 1982 and 2006 amidst turmoil of a similar scale.
However, Capello derives little optimism from Italy’s history of shining in the dark, and stated that he has his doubts on whether the players will be able to form a closely knit unit in the current circumstances.
“I don’t know if the national squad, on this occasion, will be able to compact themselves given the latest domestic match fixing storm.”
The former England manager is out of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 after his decision to part company with the Three Lions.
