Fabio Capello syas Fulham striker Bobby Zamora would play a huge role for England
Fulham striker, Bobby Zamora, says he is delighted by the apparent faith that England boss, Fabio Capello, has shown in him.
Capello recently said that he thought Zamora would have a huge role to play over the next few games for England and it seems to have lifted Zamora's spirits to another level. This is very important for a player who thrives on confidence and it could be the making of Zamora's England career.
It's important to keep level feet over comments like this and Zamora has to do exactly this. It is natural for an England manager to try and deflect comments away from the fact that his team played poorly at the World Cup. He will also be looking for alternative players who may be able to come into the side and have an impact.
Zamora has a high number of positives to his game that would make him a good player in the England team. However, he does have a few weaknesses that could hold him back, but many fans will argue that he couldn't do any worse than the rest of the current England team.
Attributes
Zamora is an out-and-out goal scorer and he will find some way of putting the ball into the net. This does not mean he always does it with a huge amount of flare but it means that he will find some way of getting his team in front. This is something that England do not have at the moment.
He is 29 and has a good deal of experience having played for a variety of different Premier League clubs. This proves he is a popular striker and will know what defenders do and don't like when they are playing against a big striker such as Zamora.
He is hungry and has a healthy passion to play for his country. He may not have been expecting any England recognition but he may now up his performance levels in order to make sure that Capello keeps his eye on him ahead of the important Euro2012 qualification campaign. This could mean he starts the season very well at Fulham and he may get a little bit of a run in the England side.
Weaknesses
Zamora does have a couple of small weaknesses, which may hold him back from starting his England career as early as he expects. He is a striker who thrives on confidence and when he is not scoring goals he does very little else in a game, which actually helps his side.
He's also been victim of wasting a number of good chances in important matches for Fulham. This has led to some anti-Zamora chants being sung around various grounds across England but it shows that when the pressure is really on, he may not be the ideal player to stick the ball in the goal and make the vital difference.
He also has a habit of picking up little injuries here and there, which could temporarily halt the influence he has over the side. This means that if he starts playing well for England his injury-prone tendencies could bring this to an abrupt halt.
Advice
By all means have a punt on Zamora to be lead scorer by the time the Premier League season ends. However, be more cautious when it comes to England. There are one or two strikers who are ahead of him in the pecking order and this means he will have to wait before he gets his chance. However, he seems determined to do well so when he puts on an England shirt back him to score a goal regardless of the quality.
