Fabio Capello tells players to protect their privacy and avoid excessive drinking

England’s national team manager Fabio Capello has urged his players to be "careful with their private life," because of the popularity of cell phones and social-networking sites like facebook. This comes after a number of his players were caught on camera
at a party in Scotland.
Capello also warned against overconsumption of alcohol, and suggested that players avoid drinking for the sake of their careers, "It is the worst thing. It is why people can speak about certain people drinking or being out. Players now have to be so careful
with their private life because people can see everything," he said in an interview with The Associated Press.
Capello believes that it is in a player’s best interests to avoid making their private lives public, "You can know everything about what happens in someone's private life because of the mobile phone. It can record all the time. It can take pictures. You
can find everything on Facebook or Twitter,” he told AP.
On Saturday Capello brought four players to the table, including striker Jay Bothroyd of Cardiff City. He decided to remind his new players of what constitutes proper conduct, warning them of the consequences that making a public scene can have on a career.
He made clear his conviction that the internet and cell-phones are everywhere, and that this makes it difficult for celebrities to maintain their anonymity. He expressed his hope that his players continue to make headlines for their games rather than their
personal lives.
Capello argued that alcohol consumption can lead to a shorter career for athletes, “This is important. Players have to understand the effect drink has on the body. I don't think it is possible to be a top athlete and drink heavily after matches,” he said.
The manager expressed particular concern for Andy Caroll, “I hope that his private life will be better. I hope it will improve. He has to understand that if he is going to be a player for the senior team you have to be careful at every moment,’’ he told
reporters.
He cited cultural differences between Italy and England saying, “I was involved with rugby in Italy. I remember the third half was really important. First half, second-half, third-half. It was the culture. The two teams stayed together for one hour. I remember
this very well. Now I learn that some players here drink. And this is the English culture.”
