England manager Fabio Capello has admitted that he won’t be offering any of his players any favours, as he is looking to field the strongest possible side that he can.
The manager made these comments in regards to the veterans that are in the England squad, as he has revealed that if a younger player performs better than the seasoned veterans, then he would be given the nod and a spot in the starting eleven.
The manager seemed to then focus most of his comments towards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173, who is yet to make his full return to the national team.
The Manchester United defender spent the last two seasons recovering from injuries and it seems like he has already fallen out of favour with his club.
As it stands, Capello feels the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Cahill-c14439 are all above Ferdinand in the pecking order and unless the former England starter can prove his worth, he would have to settle for a spot on the bench.
During England’s game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Montenegro-c2959, Capello chose to exclude the former England captain and that has many people assuming, that the manager has no use for the player any more.
Nonetheless, with England now in the Euro 2012, the manager will have ample time to decide just what he wants to do.
The manager, when talking about his veteran players and those who picked up injuries is quoted to have said: “All these players who were injured, including Ferdinand and [Steven] Gerrard, I hope will be fit in a really short time”
“Rio needs to play games. He has not played enough and last week he was on the bench.
“It’s my http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, sorry, but I check all the players before I select them. If a player is on top form I select them. I select the player, not the name.”
As it stands, the English FA are looking to arrange a number of friendly games for the national team. The main purpose of these games is to allow the manager to get a better look at the younger players in the team and hopefully be able to pick a much more
decent team for the tournament.
So far the Italian manager has admitted that he needs to find suitable reinforcements for his offensive unit and with the younger defenders proving their worth already, the manager might just be looking to add one or two more midfielders before he can deem
his squad to be complete.
