Fabio Felline targeting the stage victories at the Giro d’ Italia 2012
Fabio Felline is looking ahead to ride the Giro d’ Italia 2012 with his new Team Androni-Venezuela. The cyclist was left team-less after the collapse of his former side, Team Geox-TMC, and joined the Italian squad for the season ahead.
Androni-Venezuela is a UCI Professional Continental team founded in 1996 and participates in the road cycling events mainly, on the UCI Continental Circuits.
The team also took part in the UCI Pro Tour events when selected through the wildcard entries.
The Italian squad claimed two stages at the Giro d’ Italia 2011, with Angel Vicioso and Jose Rujano winning the 3rd and the 13th stage of the event.
Fabio started riding professionally in 2010, and rode with Team Geox for a period of two years, before joining Team Androni Giocattoli in 2012.
He was delighted on signing up with the Italian side and also revealed that he was approached by a number of other teams but he decided to go with Team Androni Giocattoli.
Felline told Tuttosport, “A lot of teams offered me interesting possibilities, and I opted for the solution best adapted to me. I can really break through at Androni”.
The 21-year-old was looking ahead to ride the Milan-San-Remo but had to face the disappointment after his team failed to secure an invitation for the event.
The race is scheduled on March 17, and a total number of seven continental teams are invited to the race.
Team Acqua & Sapone has filled the only vacant spot for an Italian team for the Classics.
Other teams to ride the event include, Colnago-CSF Inox, Colombia-Coldeportes, Farnese Vini, Project 1t4I, Team Type 1 and Utensilnord Named.
Felline shared the disappointment, “It’s a real pity, because it’s still the Classic of my dreams even if in the past couple of seasons, I’ve never had important results early on”.
He went on, “But it means that I’ll save energy to ride a great Giro d’Italia”.
Fabio made his Grand Tour debut at the Tour de France 2010 and is training hard for the Giro d’ Italia 2012.
His main target for the Italian Grand Tour is to claim at least one stage at the race. The cyclist is also looking ahead to represent the Italian team at the 2012 Olympic Games.
