Fabio Scozzoli claims Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day two – 2012 Paris Open
Fabio Scozzoli of Italy claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 Paris Open Swimming Championships on Saturday, July 7.
The Italian swimmer displayed his tremendous efforts in the double lap breaststroke discipline and stunned the aquatic crowd by snaring gold medal of the event.
He faced tough competition from Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa from the start but managed to overpower his relentless efforts in the final 15 metres of the swim. Scozzoli continued his nerve-wrecking pace in the event and tapped the finishing blockade
with the timing of 1 minute and 00.88 seconds.
His strongest competitor, Burgh stayed 0.08 seconds slower from him and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 00.96 seconds for silver medal.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Giacomo Perez Dortona of France, who remained just 0.10 seconds apart and reached the victory stand with the timing of 1 minute and 01.06 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania, who remained just one stroke behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 01.38 seconds for fourth position.
Following that, the arena witnessed gruelling efforts of Lara Grangeon on the preliminary rounds of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM). Grangeon stayed slightly ahead of her closest swimmer and qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal
with the timing of 4 minutes and 46.11 seconds.
She was trailed by Patricia Castro Ortega of Spain, who 0.24 seconds apart and posted a time of 4 minutes and 46.35 seconds for second position.
Subsequently, Ortega was chased by Alessia Polieri of Italy, who stayed nearly seven seconds apart and finished third in the discipline with an effort of 4 minutes and 53.65 seconds.
Polieri was chased by Adeline Martin of France, who stayed 1.40 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing end as fourth position holder with the timing of 4 minutes and 55.05 seconds.
Furthermore, Scozzoli received a huge round of applause from the audience for his noteworthy efforts in the breaststroke discipline.
