Fabio Scozzoli clinches Men’s 100m breaststroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Fabio Scozzoli of Italy clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
The Italian expert showed no leniency to his challengers in the 100m discipline as he proved his mettle for gold medal. He faced tough contest from his following swimmer, Glenn Snyders throughout the event but with his epic efforts, he ensured his top finish.
Scozzoli remained only half a stroke ahead of his toughest competitor and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 57.61 seconds.
His title claiming effort remained 0.28 seconds ahead of Snyders, who proved his eligibility for silver medal by touching the wall with a timing of 57.89 seconds.
Third spot of the event was obtained by Henrique Barbosa of Brazil, who remained 0.61 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking a time of 58.50 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was secured by Sean Mahoney of USA, who stayed only 0.10 seconds away from securing his spot on the podium but ended his race in a time of 58.60 seconds.
Mahoney was followed by Neil Versfeld of South Africa, who was 0.35 seconds behind and ended his race in fifth place by submitting a time of 58.95 seconds.
Versfeld was traced by Erik Steinhagen, who was 0.76 seconds apart and occupied sixth position of the event by posting a time of 59.71 seconds.
The sixth best finisher was chased by Tomas Klobucnik, who elevated his efforts in the second half of the race but failed to restore order. Klobucnik remained 0.53 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 00.24 seconds for seventh place.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Bastian Vollmer, who was 0.32 seconds apart and ended his race in eighth place by posting an effort of 1 minute and 00.56 seconds.
In addition, Scozzoli received huge admiration from the crowd for his astonishing efforts and said that he would try hard to continue the same in future.
