Fabio Scozzoli clinches Men’s 50m breaststroke gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Fabio Scozzoli of Italy clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The Italian swimmer met expectations of his fans by dominating the playoff of the 50m discipline. With his quickest response to the start, Scozzoli gained a slight lead over his opponents in the beginning and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for
gold medal.
Scozzoli stayed one stroke ahead of his following swimmer as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal by producing an effort of 26.51 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Sergei Geibel of Russia, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting an effort of 26.74 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Glenn Snyders of New Zealand, who stayed 0.26 seconds apart and paved his way to the victory stand for bronze medal by submitting a time of 27.00 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Russian swimmers, Anton Panferov and Oleg Utekhin, who tried hard to surpass each other over the finishing end for fourth position but failed to do so.
The duo engaged each other in a stroke-to-stroke battle in the second half and made their way to the finishing end with identical timings of 27.31 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Andrey Nikolaev of Russia, who was 0.29 seconds away from securing his spot on the podium but tapped the wall with a timing of 27.60 seconds.
Nikolaev was traced by Kirill Strelnikov of Russia, who suffered a loss of 0.14 seconds from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 27.74 seconds.
Similarly, Strelnikov enjoyed an advantage of 0.17 seconds over his teammate, Yury Chekulaev, who was unable to overpower any of his opponents and finished his race in eighth place by clocking an effort of 27.91 seconds.
In addition, Scozzoli received massive admiration from the audience for his commendable efforts in the 50m discipline and raked medal after the event.
