Fabio Scozzoli earns Men’s 100m breaststroke title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Fabio Scozzoli of Italy earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Thursday, October 18.
The Italian swimmer smothered hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for the crown. With his impeccable pace in the four-lap discipline, Scozzoli remained in a marginal lead over his opponents and secured the title.
He showered his expertise in the 100m event and proved his eligibility for the crown by touching the wall with a wonderful timing of 58.32 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Biaorong Gu of China, who stayed 0.40 seconds slower from upsetting his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with a nice effort of 58.72 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was followed Sergei Geibel of Russia, who was only 0.17 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall for third position with an effort of 58.89 seconds.
Subsequently, Geibel was chased by Sean Mahoney of USA, who was 0.55 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end for fourth position with a timing of 59.44 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was obtained by Viatcheslav Sinkevich of Russia, who suffered a loss of only 0.07 seconds from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing end by clocking a time of 59.51 seconds.
Sinkevich was followed by Marco Koch of Germany, who remained only 0.05 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as sixth best finisher with a timing of 59.56 seconds.
Koch was chased by Anton Lobanov of Russia, who was 0.29 seconds behind and emerged on the wall with an effort of 59.85 seconds.
Eighth fastest spot of the race was secured by Oleg Utekhin of Russia, who was more than half a body length slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 00.53 seconds.
In addition, Scozzoli received massive admiration from the audience for his gruelling efforts and stressed that he would struggle hard to make a notable change in his timing at the forthcoming swimming competitions.
