Fabio Scozzoli earns Men’s 50m breaststroke gold: Day one – 2012 Paris Open
Fabio Scozzoli of Italy earned gold medal of the Men’s 50m breaststroke on foremost day of the 2012 Paris Open Swimming Championships on Friday, July 6.
The Italian swimmer won hearts of the aquatic crowd with his fascinating form in the shortest breaststroke discipline. He continued his scintillating form throughout the event and ensured his place on top of the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With his epic pace, he stifled hopes of his challengers and occupied gold medal of the discipline with an effort of 27.73 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Giacomo Perez Dortona of France, who stayed just an inch slower from his former finisher and touched the finishing wall with the timing of 27.77 seconds for silver medal.
Third spot of the 50m event was secured by Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa, who stayed just 0.09 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade by posting a time of 27.86 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Hendrik Feldwehr of Germany, who was half body length slower form overpowering the bronze medallist and finished fourth in the event with the timing of 28.31 seconds.
Feldwehr was chased by Filipp Provorkov of Estonia, who occupied fifth fastest spot of the event with the timing of 28.36 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 100m breaststroke, where Sarah Poewe of Germany gave no chance to her challengers and snared gold medal of the event.
The German swimmer remained considerably faster from her rivals throughout the event and hit the wall for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 08.60 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort remained 0.44 seconds ahead of Caroline Ruhnau of Germany, who captured silver medal of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 09.04 seconds.
The silver medallist was trailed by Michela Guzzetti of Italy, who remained 0.69 seconds slower from her and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 09.73 seconds for bronze medal.
Scozzoli was very happy with her gold winning efforts just few weeks before the 2012 London Olympic Games and stressed that she will try to meet expectations of her fans at the mega stage of sports.
