Fabio Scozzoli pockets Men’s 100m breaststroke gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Fabio Scozzoli of Italy pocketed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, December 13.
Scozzoli continued his unravelling efforts in the playoff of the breaststroke discipline and cemented his place on top of the medal rostrum for the crown.
With his stupendous pace, Scozzoli remained just a stroke ahead of his toughest challenger and tapped the wall for the title with an effort of 57.10 seconds.
His top notch effort remained 0.22 seconds faster from Damir Dugonjic of Slovenia, who reached the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking an effort of 57.32 seconds.
Dugonjic was traced by Kevin Cordes of USA, who stayed 0.51 seconds apart and reached the wall for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 57.83 seconds.
The third position holder was trailed by Martti Aljand of Estonia, who remained only 0.02 seconds slower from securing his spot on the medal rostrum as he finished fourth in the race by submitting a time of 57.85 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the race was obtained by Mihail Alexandrov of USA, who was just 0.01 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall for fifth position with the timing of 57.86 seconds.
Alexandrov was traced by Viatcheslav Sinkevich of Russia, who also remained 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 57.88 seconds for sixth position.
Sinkevich was traced by Akihiro Yamaguchi of Japan, who tried hard to improve his position in the playoff but failed to do so. Yamaguchi remained 0.38 seconds slower from his former finisher and made his way to the finishing end for seventh position with
the timing of 58.26 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Felipe Lima of Brazil, who was 0.47 seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 58.73 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Scozzoli was overjoyed with his gold finish in the race and articulated his desire of making his fans happier by achieving the same in upcoming events.
