Fabiola Molina clinches Women’s 100m backstroke gold: Day five – Maria Lenk Trophy, Rio de Janeiro
Fabiola Pulga Molina of FIAT/MINAS clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on fifth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday, April 28.
Molina demonstrated her notable efforts in the double lap backstroke event and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her invincible efforts, she remained considerably ahead of her following swimmer, Laure Manaudou of ECP/SABESP, and tapped the finishing end for the crown of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.74 seconds.
She was followed by Manaudou, who stayed 0.28 seconds slower from overpowering the gold medallist and settled on the medal rostrum for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.02 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Molina’s team-member, Carolina Colorado Henao, who was 1.32 seconds away from the second position holder and hit the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 02.34 seconds.
Henao was chased by Manaudou’s teammate, Natalia Mendes Diniz of ECP/SABESP who proved her eligibility for fourth best spot of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 03.08 seconds.
Diniz remained in a lead of almost one second over her subsequent competitor, Etiene Pires Medeiros of CRF/RJ, who earned fifth position of the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 04.19 seconds.
She was followed by her teammate, Fernanda Nunes Alvarenga, who accomplished sixth best position of the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 04.52 seconds.
Similarly, Alvarenga was trailed by Thalandra Cavalcanti Borges of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained 0.47 seconds behind and finished her swim in seventh best place by reporting a time of 1 minute and 04.99 seconds.
Last spot of the backstroke discipline was chased by Borges’s team-member, Isabela Vicente Silva, who finished her swim in eighth best place by producing a time of 1 minute and 05.45 seconds.
Furthermore, Molina expressed contentment over her furious efforts while the winners were invited on the medal rostrum for their commendable efforts after the completion of all events.
