Fabiola Pulga Molina claims Women’s 200m back-stroke gold medal: Day one – 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
Fabiola Pulga Molina of FIAT/MINAS claimed the gold medal of Women’s 200m back-stroke swim on the opening day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on August 30, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Pulga Molina showered her dominating skills in the four-lap back-stroke swim to win the gold medal of the back-stroke discipline. Her immaculate swim placed her on the podium for gold medal, as she clocked a time of 2 minutes and 14.08 seconds. The 36-year-old
champion remained undisputed in her distant back-stroke race and maintained a comfortable lead over her fellow swimmers.
The gold medallist was followed by her team-member, Fernanda Nunes Alvarenga, who stayed 1.40 seconds away and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting a phenomenal time of 2 minutes and 15.48 seconds. Likewise, Alvarenga also kept her
subsequent swimmers at a clear distance and maintained a lead of nearly four seconds over her closest competitor, Rebeca Bianca Bretanha of Corinthians/S.Bernar. Bretanha occupied third fastest spot of the swim and reached the podium for bronze medal by posting
a time of 2 minutes and 19.05 seconds.
Molina looked remarkably strong for top spot of the swim from the starting blocks. Her thrilling dive and fastest back-stroke leg provided her a marginal lead over her competitors in the initial lap of the swim, while the gold medallist strengthened her
position in the remaining laps of the swim. She maintained a clear distance over her strongest rivals, while she extended her lead to 1.40 seconds in the second-half of the race.
Meanwhile, Bretanha’s team-member, Thalandra Cavalcanti Borges emerged on the finishing wall for the fourth fastest spot. She was just 0.67 seconds slower than the bronze medallist and submitted an appreciable effort of 2 minute and 19.72 seconds. She was
followed by Marina Oliveira Nascimento of IATE CLUBE/DF, who was nearly three seconds slower than her former finisher and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 22.02 seconds.
Nascimento’s team-mate, Isabela Vicente Silva was the sixth fastest swimmer of the event, as she reported a time of 2 minutes and 24.02 seconds. She was followed by Jhessica Karoline Silva Santos of Unisanta, who earned seventh position of the swim by producing
a time of 2 minutes and 24.73 seconds. The last spot was obtained by Thatiane Quirino of CRF/RJ, who settled as the eighth finisher with a timing of 2 minutes and 29.07 seconds.
In addition, the winners were invited on the victory stand for their immaculate efforts, while the arena also applauded for the praiseworthy swims of all participants.
