Fabiola Pulga Molina earns Women’s 100m butterfly gold: Day three – Jose Finkel Trophy
Fabiola Pulga Molina of FIAT/MINAS earned gold medal of Women’s 100m butterfly event on the third day of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy on September 1, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Molina posted a phenomenal time of 1 minute and 00.40 seconds to claim the title of the Women’ butterfly discipline. With her extraordinary effort, Molina remained 4.36 seconds slower than the world record of 56.06 seconds, made by Sarah Sjostrom at the
2009 Rome World Championships. She was nearly two seconds slower than the championship mark of 57.65 seconds, set by Inge De Bruijn of CRV/G/RJ during 2000.
She was followed by her team-member and closest competitor, Daynara Ferreira Paula, who remained 0.29 seconds away and submitted a time of 1 minute and 00.69 seconds for the silver medal. The top two finishers were followed by Daniele Paoli Jesus of ECP/SABESP,
who remained only 0.31 seconds behind Paula and reached the podium for bronze medal by reporting in a time of 1 minute and 01.00 seconds.
Molina completed her first lap of the swim in the fourth place, finishing behind Paula and Paoli Jesus, who posted timings of 28.53 and 28.20 seconds, respectively. Nevertheless, in the second lap of the swim, she accelerated her swim for the gold medal
and gained a marginal lead over her competitors on the finishing wall.
In the meantime, Inge Dekker of FIAT/MINAS/MG emerged as the fourth fastest finisher of the event. Dekker stayed only 0.55 seconds slower than her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 1 minute and 01.55 seconds for fourth position. Dekker was followed
by Daiene Marcal Dias of FFC/RJ, who was only 0.43 seconds slower than her and clocked a time of 1 minute and 01.98 seconds.
Meanwhile, the sixth spot of the race was secured by Dandara Mendes Antonio of FIAT/MINAS, who remained just 0.11 seconds behind her former finisher and produced a time of 1 minute and 02.09 seconds. Antonio maintained a lead of 0.46 seconds over her subsequent
competitor, Carolina B Athayde of CRF/RJ, who occupied seventh position of the swim with a timing of 1 minute and 02.55 seconds.
Athayde was chased by Bruna Caroline Lemos Rocha of ECP/SABESP, who settled as the eighth position holder of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 03.21 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the wonderful swims of all participants, while the arena also acknowledged commendable efforts of podium finishers. In addition, these winners were called upon the victory stand for their flawless swims after the completion
of the final session.
