Fabiola Pulga Molina pockets Women’s 50m backstroke gold: Day one – Maria Lenk Trophy
Fabiola Pulga Molina of FIAT/MINAS pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on initial day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, April 24.
The 36-year-old Pulga Molina lived up to the expectations of her supporters by occupying gold medal of the single lap backstroke discipline. Subsequently, her competitors capitulated as they failed to substantiate their efforts for gold medal.
With her irresistible efforts, Molina stayed slightly ahead of her opponents on the finishing wall for gold medal as she touched the wall with the timing of 28.74 seconds.
The champion was followed by Laure Manaudou of ECP/SABESP, who stayed 0.07 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 28.81 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Etiene Pires Medeiros of CRF/RJ, who was just two-strokes slower from overwhelming her former finisher and transpired on the finishing wall as bronze medallist by submitting a time of 28.91 seconds.
Meanwhile, Manaudou’s teammate, Natalia Mendes Diniz proved her eligibility for the fourth best spot of the race as she stayed 0.42 seconds away from her former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end by clocking a time of 29.33 seconds.
Fifth position of the event was obtained by Daynara Ferreira Paula of CRF/RJ, who was just 0.07 seconds slower from Diniz and tapped the wall with the timing of 29.40 seconds.
Paula was trailed by Isabela Vicente Silva of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained only 0.67 seconds slower and gained sixth position of the discipline by submitting a time of 30.07 seconds.
The seventh best spot of the race was secured by Giuliana Gigliotti of CRF/RJ, who was nearly full body length behind her preceding swimmer and completed her swim in a time of 30.96 seconds.
Gigliotti was trailed by Laura Masulino Garcia of ECP/SABESP, who ended her swim in eighth best place by reporting a time of 31.09 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events while the position holders received awards and accolades for their tremendous efforts at prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
