http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 have had their luck on many occasions.
When the tournament started, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 wasn’t at his personal best. However, the Portuguese captain has finally shown that why he is widely considered as one of the best players in the world; taking his side into the semi-finals singlehandedly.
Portugal were drawn into the group of death as the group-stages of the Euro 2012 kicked off. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884 were the three teams which they were paired against and it was expected that Netherlands and Germany will be the two sides qualifying
for the quarter-finals.
However, Portugal were the ones who showed that they can definitely not be underestimated and even though they lost 1-0 to the Germans, they were able to beat Denmark 3-2 and later won 2-1 against Netherlands to qualify for the quarter-finals as runner-ups
of their respective group.
Portugal then faced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 in the quarter-finals and Ronaldo was the player who got the only goal for his side and helped them qualify for the semi-finals.
Even though Portugal have not been playing phenomenally in this Euro 2012, they still pose a strong counter-attacking threat for all the teams.
The Spanish midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, who also has the ability to play as a striker, has warned his team-mates against complacency and told them how Portugal can be deadly on the counter-attack.
While speaking about the Portuguese national team, Cesc Fabregas said:
“Portugal have a strong counterattack, but if I were a coach and had http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 I’d probably play that way too.”
“There may be three Real Madrid players in their side but they have a distinct style. Portugal have a midfield which likes to hold the ball and use it well.”
Spaniards are favourites to qualify for their second consecutive Euro final. However, with Ronaldo in the Portuguese team, they can definitely not be underestimated.
Spain will face Portugal on June 27th, 2012.
