Fabric dye question..10 pts?

ok..i have a wrap dress thats black and i want to dye it another color....is it possible to do that if the fabric of the wrap dress(like most dresses) is not cotton. i think its like 95% rayon 10% spandex.

I was thinking to do it with dylon dye,because i live near a joanne's fabric....but i dunno what i should do to get it another color.

I dont care if it turns out gray or burgundy..just not black....

what should i do

  1. It is extremely diffcult to dye black another color.  It seems to only take dark dyes and yes dylon dyes are the best to use because you can get a special dye for non natural fabrics.  I suggest you try to dye a piece of the fabric where it does not show so that you can see whether it is alright but do ask an assistant in Joanne's as they should be able to suggest what color will take on black fabric.


  2. If your dress is black, dying it will not help. Putting color on top of black will only make it darker black. You need to bleach the color out first, see what it looks like and go from there.

    Different fabrics and dyes react differently, so I'm sorry I can't be more specific.
