Fabric paint on fleece/fluffy polyester?

Question

Would fabric paint work on fleece like material? It's actually fluffy polyester. I realize that it is fluffy and could pose a problem. So say I was making a little stuffed monster and wanted to paint eyeballs on it... would that work, or would it be too difficult to make a circle?

I was using felt before, and it just looked a little cheap... I thought paint would look better.

I'd use buttons or glue on felt pieces.
