Question:

Fabric softener while washing

When my mother washes she uses fabric softener. I never use it and probably never will. What is the purpose of using fabric softener while washing and is it worth it or a waste of money?

  1. I use it and pretty much swear by it.  It makes your clothes softer, as the name implies!  Its not necessary but it leaves your clothes feeling and smelling fresher longer!!

  2. It does make clothing softer and helps reduce "static cling." BUT: it cuts down on a towel's ability to absorb water ... ironic, that an item you want to be real soft is made less efficient by such a product. It's a personal choice, but if you figure out the price versus the amount you use, it doesn't cost very much per load.

If you're curious, have Mom give you a load's worth and try it. Second-best: use those 'dryer sheets' to help reduce static and make things a bit softer.

  3. I never used it either until the last couple of years. It actually makes your clothes softer, not scratchy feeling, and gives them a fresh clean scent that lasts for hours no matter how dirty you get them. They also make the bedroom and closet fresh smelling.

  4. I FEEL THAT IT REALLY WORKS... N I THINK ITS GIVES DA CLOTHES A DIFFERENT  SCENT

  5. it softens the clothes and can decrease static clean.

  6. Using fabric softener is totally optional.  Some claim to reduce static cling, make the fabric softer, yada, yada.  Personally I don't use it, either.  I do use white vinegar to help remove any soap residue and to refresh the fabric.  There is no vinegar smell-just the smell of fabric.  I use my own handmade soap for washing, too.  (My skin is hypersensitive to chemicals, fragrances, etc.)
