November 18, 2012, Stade Chaban Delmas would always remain etched in the memory of Olympique de Marseille striker. Despite seeing his team lose on his debut, Fabrice Apruzesse is still finding it hard to move on from his first taste of Ligue 1 experience.
In a matter of days, life has changed for the 27-year-old who was preferred over Florian Raspentino by coach Elie Baup in the final quarter of that game.
While talking to reporters regarding his feelings during that game, the striker admitted that there were a few tears when Elie Baup called upon him as it was a boyhood dream of his to one day, don the jersey of OM.
“I cried. When you’re small and you start to play football, you do dream of one day wearing the jersey of OM. Whatever the result, I am immensely proud to have worn the jersey of OM in Ligue 1,” he told La Provence.
However, soon after gracing the lawn of Chaban Delmas, Apruzesse was on the receiving end of some banter on social networking sites. But, the banter really does not affect the striker who says that he is more happy to know that many people actually congratulated
him and asked him to become an example for younger players at the club.
“Some things hit me at first. But I don’t pay much attention. There is some jealousy.”
Not spiteful at all towards the haters, the striker was moved by sporting director Jose Anigo’s support who made it a personal vendetta to crucify all those who criticised the player. And, the Frenchman who was largely confined to CFA 2 football for most
part of his career, says that Anigo has always given him a lot of advice and has always supported him.
“He is the club’s sporting director and it’s good to know that I had support, especially from him. He knows how it is, and he usually gives me a lot of advice about everything.”
Knowing that it would be hard to add to his Ligue 1 caps, Apruzesse is touched by many fans of the club who have backed him.
“There was a guy who sent me a photo of him in the OM jersey with my name on it. Obviously it touched me. It proves that there are people behind me and I hope I will have another opportunity to show my skills because people have judged me without knowing
me.”
