Fabrice Santoro is in favour of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s decision of hiring a coach – Tennis News
France’s veteran tennis player, Fabrice Santoro, has backed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga’s step of taking the coaching services of Roger Rasheed.
Tsonga was playing without any coach for almost last two years. Santoro knows that Tsonga is doing some hard work during the off season and he expects that his partnership with Rasheed would produce good results in the good season.
Santoro, who is called a magician by his fellow players due to his amazing racket skill, is taking part in an ATP Champions Tour event these days.
The former world number 17 said in an interview, “I like Jo's decision to get a coach because he was alone for a year and a half and he needs a coach - I was pleased when he picked Roger Rasheed. Hopefully they will work well as
a team - I know he's working really hard in the off season.”
The Frenchman believes that the players, who are just outside the top four including his countryman, should make a goal of breaking into the list of four highest ranked contenders. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray and
Rafael Nadal have kept hold on the top four rankings for almost five years now. All four of them won a Grand Slam each during 2012 and Santoro believes that it would not be easier for Tsonga and Co. to break that hold.
He added, “The main goal for him - and for David Ferrer and Juan Martin Del Potro and those players outside the top 4 - is to take a spot in that top four. Every member of that top 4 won a grand slam this year and it is going to
be difficult for someone to break in to that group in 2013.”
Santoro hopes that these guys would be able to win Grand Slams in next year, staring well at the Australian Open. Tsonga gave his career best performance at the Melbourne Park five years ago, reaching the title match. The 27-year-old
attained his highest ranking of number five at the beginning of this year but it dropped in the following months and now he is at the eighth position.
