Fabricio Werdum: I am looking forward to grab a swift knockout win over Mike Russow – UFC News
Fabricio Werdum, the two-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion, in a recent media interaction stated that he will try his level best to replicate his last Roy Nelson-bout performance. He added that he is looking forward to knock Mike Russow out and will
not let the fight go to the judges' table.
Mike and Fabricio will co-headline the ‘UFC 147’ pay-per-view and will meet at the Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The showdown, to be televised live on June 23, 2012, will also witness Rich Franklin take on Wanderlei Silva in
a non-title bout while constituting the main event.
The duo recently put forth their thoughts and excitement about the upcoming bout. Werdum, 34, has been in a total of 21 mixed martial art bouts and visibly has an upper hand over Mike as far as the experience is concerned.
The Brazilian submission specialist is well known for his startling career in submission grappling game. Fabricio has participated in various national and international level grappling championships and has grabbed a total of 10 gold medals along with several
bronze and silver. It is this reason as to why the bettors are placing their odds in favour of the Jiu-Jitsu, Judo and Muay Thai black belt holder.
While sharing his thoughts about the Saturday night engagement, Werdum stated, “This is my first time in [Belo Horizonte], congratulations to this crowd here. Both Russow and I come from wins, I fought a great battle against Roy Nelson, I expect to have
the same performance here in Brazil. I’ve prepared to fight both standing up and on the ground, I’d like to knock him out as fast as I can and not leave it up to the judges.”
Mike, Werdum’s opponent, has been in a total of 17 mixed martial art bouts. The 35-year-old possesses a decent win ratio as compared to Werdum as he has won 15 of his total bouts.
Russow is also good at the ground game and has pinned, just like Fabricio, four opponents by knockout and eight by submission. When asked as to what are his feelings on taking on one of the best heavyweights in UFC, Mike stated, “I think it’s going to be
a hard fight right through the third round. Come fight time, I close my eyes, I focus and I go for it.”
The odds are definitely in favour of Fabricio as he has a hefty resume compared to Mike, above all, Werdum has a long illustrious career in the submission grappling stance of the sport which will undoubtedly aid him during the clash.
