Fabricio Werdum collects swift knockout out win over Mike Russow at UFC 147 – UFC News
Fabricio Werdum, the Brazilian grappling specialist, is now eyeballing Junior Dos Santos, the current UFC heavyweight champion, after collecting a thrashing technical knockout win over Mike Russow in just two minutes and 28 seconds of the first round of
the three-round non-title bout held on June 23, 2012.
The duo co-headlined the pay-per-view which was televised from Estadio Jornalista Felipe Drumond in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The showdown, dubbed as ‘UFC 147: Franklin vs. Silva’, was headlined by the non-title five-round bout between Rich Franklin and Wanderlei
Silva.
Werdum, 34, is a talented Brazilian mixed martial art belligerent who has quite an impressive rather intimidating resume as far as the submission grappling style of the sport is concerned.
Most probably, Fabricio is the only brawler in Ultimate Fighting Championship who has not only participated in several national and international submission grappling competitions but has also collected a bag full of medals.
Fabricio by his mastery in Brazilian jiu-jitsu has grabbed 10 gold, four silver and five bronze medals and therefore is considered as a real threat in the heavyweight division. Werdum was coming from a classic unanimous decision win over Roy Nelson.
The Muay Thai black belt holder was entering the octagon for the 22nd time, boasting 15 wins. Werdum has pinned four of his opponents by knockout, eight by submission and just three by decision.
His Saturday night opponent, Mike, 35, was entering the ring with an impressive 11-bout win streak. Russow, who had just the NCAA division wrestling career in his resume, was no match for the multi-talented Werdum and the bout and its outcome eventually
proved the fact.
During the short encounter, Fabricio started things off in a dominating manner and continuously pounded Mike with full force and might. The intensity of the blows can be judged from the fact that Russow was unable to defend himself.
The swift barrage of jabs stunned Mike who tried his level best to retaliate but his every single effort went in vain. Even the bout-referee warned Mike to counter attack still the American did not do anything as he was outclassed by Farbicio completely.
As a result of the one-sided battering, the bout-referee intervened to protect Mike from further annihilation. After a commanding win especially over a brawler who was coming from a lengthy streak, Werdum has started to eye ball Junior Dos Santos, the man
who nailed him in his very first UFC bout.
After the bout, Fabricio just stated, “I'm training a lot of Muay Thai. I really like 'Cigano,' but I'm ready for him.” Whether or not Werdum gets the bout the point to ponder is – can he avenge his loss to Santos or not?
Werdum further added that he wants to take on one or two names before colliding with the champion adding that he is just waiting for the UFC management to make their say.
