Fabricio Werdum returns to UFC and picks a win over Roy Nelson in UFC 143 – UFC news
The Mandalay Bay Events Center rocked on Saturday February 4, 2012 when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) put forth an epic heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson, a bout that won the Fight of the night honour and saw Fabricio conquer
the octagon.
Fabricio won the 3-round non-title clash emphatically after securing a unanimous decision with scores 30–27 allocated in his favour by all the three designated judges. Werdum, infamous as the Go Horse or Vai Cavalo, put up a really great show in his inaugural
bout in UFC.
Werdum, 34, has been in a total 20 bouts and has won 14 of them.  He was in his returning bout with Roy, the Big Country, a man famous for his sheer raw power. Before that Fabricio fought from the Strikeforce version of the sport. Roy on the other hand has
been in a total 22 bouts. His 16 wins include nine by knock out and five by submission which clearly shows that Roy loves to attack his opponent wildly and attempts to knockout the opponent at the earliest.
On the other hand Werdum, currently the world number four heavyweight in mixed martial art sport, is known for his submission tactics. His wins include eight by submission and four by knock out. Both men are almost equivalent when it comes to stats the only
difference that gives both of them an upper hand on each other is their knock out and submission speciality.
Roy is a huge brawler who enters in the octagon, hops towards his opponent and tries to punch him hard no matter what happens. The same aspect was visible when he entered the octagon amidst the cheers and chants of the crowd. Some of the analysts thought
that since Nelson has a huge power game with him, he might knock the sense out of Fabricio.
Werdum defied all talks and comments before the fight and put up a great show full of agility, kicks to the most pivotal parts, fist strikes at the face and body in an effective way hence damaging the big man. Werdum did try and even was able to throw a
couple of targeted punches but it was his stamina that halted him to continue the power pounding, an aspect that Fabricio took advantage of.
Werdum and Fabricio received an extra bonus of $65,000 on putting up a fight of the night show. Fabricio now has 15 wins in his account and Roy has collected another loss and now sits at 16 wins and seven losses. The UFC 143 pay-per-view was headlined by
Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit.
