Fabrizio Zanotti takes halfway lead at the Alstom Open de France - Golf News
Fabrizio Zanotti secured a two stroke advantage at the Alstom Open de France after a second round 68 saw him finish on 6 under par.
The Paraguayans leads from Richard Stern of South Africa and Denmark’s duo, Søren Kjeldsen and Thomas Björn, who settled for a five-under par halfway score.
Zanotti is now relishing the opportunity to finally secure his maiden victory on the European Tour, having finished second thrice so far in his career.
Starting on the front nine of course, he birdied two of the first three holes that he played, before adding another shot on the ninth hole. Thereafter, he conceded a bogey on the 12th hole, before draining a birdie putt on the
14th, to reach the top of the leaderboard.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he expressed his pleasure in overcoming the difficult playing conditions at Le Golf National.
According to him, he struggled a bit with his game off the tee, however, his strong game on the greens allowed him to post a decent score in the end.
“I’m very happy,” said Zanotti. “I struggled a little from the tee but I putted very well during the day and pretty happy with the round. It was pretty tough out there, and the course is playing very hard, so very happy.”
“I haven’t played very well during the year, but I'm working very hard and I think this is because of all the work; I am always positive,” he added. “It's pretty tough to keep working when you are not playing good, but that is
the way all the guys play good, so you have to keep working to get where you want.”
Zanotti now plans to keep the momentum going into the weekend by focusing on his natural game and not trying anything silly that can cost him bogeys.
At the same time, he will have to work a bit extra on his driving technique, if he really wants to keep his rivals at bay. In order to maintain the lead, he should avoid hitting the roughs, or else, it will become really difficult
for him to save the pars.
