Facebook, how do I appear online?

NOT in the chat box, in my regular profile, my friend said that it never shows when I'm online.

Can you tell me how to fix this?

I'm pretty new on facebook, so step by step would be good.

You can't. Facebook is designed that way for safety reasons.

However, you can add applications which will do that for you. This is unofficial though.

When you online a it says under your profile picture (or where your profile picture is meant to be) that you are online. I am pretty sure that it does it automatically!

Maybe you are never online at the same time?
