Facebook, myspace, bebo, (all networking sites) in a conspiracy with colleges and employers?

It's old news that potential colleges and employers take the appearance of your facebook and myspace into consideration when it comes to selecting you.

The question is, do the networking sites make profits? Or in other words, are networking sites in cahoots with colleges and employers by cooperating extensively with their demands? Because I'm sure that it is easy for you to delete all traces of s*x, vulgarity, and etc. on your own profile when you know that it's about time to get a job or apply for college, as well as turn your settings on "only friends allowed to see your profile".

Colleges and employers can't see much of you and your past then...unless they call for an INSIDE JOB. Yes, as in "asking networking sites to give them all your past, privately-sent, conversations, applications, etc." Please, I don't want to be reassured with "they don't have the time to look through everything, etc". Every f-bomb and severely/moderately non-professional act can be found with a filter.
