wheneve one of your friends is online..... click them and it should show you your history, otherwise go to setting, "show my chat history" and enter, and you should be good!

Open the chat window of the person's history you want to view.

If the person is not online, Click on "Online friends", type in the person's name, and click it.

The chat history will automatically appear. If not then it has been cleared, and you will not be able to retrieve it.
