Facebook in Tunisia???

i cant open facebook, i have the same sentence that i get when i try to log on youtube...

Did they shut it down????

If so, why??

And why didnt they let us know ahead...so we can try and get another way to contact those we only know through facebook?

Facebook was working around 10am today - I logged on and made some changes to my account. When I read your question though, I tried to log on and got the 404, so it must have just recently been banned.

I haven't heard why it was shut down, but it probably had some aspects to it that the Tunisian government didn't agree with. Someone probably started a group that discusses the political situation here, or something along those lines, the government found out about it, and decided to block it.

Whenever a government, any government, blocks sites, they never give advanced warning because then that would give the people that participate in the "offending" acts time to alert others, save information, and plan for moving their material to a new site. The whole objective of blocking sites is to stop that type of act, so that is why no advanced notice is ever given.
