Question:

Faced w/ Empty Nest=Parental Stress???

I am days away from leaving for college and for the past two weeks it seems that my mother especially has been hounding me every day - it is never over the same subject but is instead always over something trivial that blows up into seemingly ten subjects snowballing into one berating lecture. Whether it is about money or my plans for the future, everything and everyday is a new point of disagreement - I just received a new laptop (for school) that I don't even want to open because of how much stress and guilt she has put on me for it. Aside from this obviously sounding angst-y (which is instead fed by physical and emotional exhaustion), does this sound normal? Did anyone else go through this with their parents or is my mom, as I like to describe her, just being Carrie from The King of Queens?

  1. Very Normal. I went through this with my dad. He didn't want to let me grow up and didn't want to know that I did anyway. There was a time where we didn't speak and I didn't see them for holidays but after a yr of this, we sat down and talked about it. Why e=he didn't want me to grow up. (I was the last child and it's harder on the parent's when it's the last chid leaving the nest.) Just give it some time and eventually you will be back to being close like you wre before.

  2. Some parents go beserk when it comes to letting go of some children , could you probably be the first to go?

I was so excited when my daughter went to college but her dorm stay was a nightmare, pray yours isn't.

Keep the laptop, you need it, try this instead.

    It's desensatation of the pest,

when the person bugging you starts in on you smile and simply say " You're Right", and slowly  walk away.  Do this over and over again and within two weeks it will stop, there is no more fun in trying to get your goat when you don't react.

and you aren't smarting off to them addmitting You're right, disarms them, leaves them confused and you got them.

    Oh does this work............
