I was just browsing youtube and I saw a video {well a few actually} and was wondering if it was true. Of coarse I am going to try it some time to see for myself but is it just a farce because half the sites say its real and then the others say its just fake. Is it?

  1. well raw pork does have very tiny "worms" in it  that is why you have to cook it well done.

  2. Raw pork can contain the larvae or eggs of a small worm, called trichinella spiralis.  If you eat pork that hasn't been cooked thoroughly, those eggs will hatch after you eat the pork or the larvae that you eat will burrow into your own muscles to lay more eggs.  The worms can be killed with drugs if they are in your intestines, but there is no way to kill the larvae that have burrowed into muscle and there is no way to kill the eggs.

The symptoms can last for several years.  And, depending on exactly where in the body the larvae migrate, it can be fatal.

Fortunately, changes in the way farmers raise their pigs and education for the public about proper cooking and handling of pork has caused the number of cases in the US to drop.  Since the turn of the century, there have only been about a dozen cases per year in the US.
