is there any truth to the notion that menstrating women can attract bears (or other animals) when out in the woods, say for camping? It's rumored that bears can smell or otherwise sense the menstral blood and will want to investigate. is there any actual, factual proof of this or is it a myth?

  1. yes, it's true.  Most carnivores can sense this.

  2. They ncan smell any kind of fresh blood, especially if it is warm.  I can smell it, and bears and dogs can smell 50 times better than humans.

  3. Yes, Bears have the smell sense of dogs. They can detect human blood quite a way off.

  4. menses can be detected by most people from a few feet away. certainly animals can with their heightened sense of smell. i live on the coast and we are warned by the local authorities about swimming during that time of the month because it will attract sharks. i take it very seriously and just wade in at the ankles. put off your camping trip til another week.
