    divide both by (x-y)

    it will be 3a = 2b

    = (3a - 2b)(x - y)

  6. see how the numbers inside the brackets are the same? to factorise this what you need to do is take the numbers OUTSIDE the brackets and out them in brackets - (3a - 2b) then you already have the other bracket because its doubled up so you put it back in - (3a - 2b) - (x-y).
