from what i understand these are returned items that are fixed so that they work like new, and have a warranty. if that is true why are they so much less money? is the quality less of something? and i was thinking of buying something factory remanufactured, is it worth it?

please correct me if I'm wrong with the definition.

if you needed to know it a harman/kardon receiver

  1. 2 main things about refurbs.

First, check the warranty. Most of the time, it's way less than for the original product. And often times, has more specific exclusions.

Second, check condition statements. Many times cosmetic pieces aren't replaced. Faceplates, k***s, cases, etc. So, your unit might be scratched, cracked, rubbed, etc.

Bottom line: research the item. If most of the failures occur within the first three months, and the refurb warranty is three months, you probably have a winner. If most failures occur in months 4-6, and it comes with a month warranty, then you're looking at a much more risky proposition!

  2. Yes, you are correct Whatever the problem is, it is repaired.

I was looking at the refurbs also.

If you are talking about the HK ebay store, they offer the same warranty as their new products.

After bidding on several AVR's, I found that I could get the same thing, new, for the same price elsewhere on the internet.

    I got a HK 435 7.1 AVR for $499.00 at onecall.com.  It retailed for $1099.00.

Shop around, there are great deals out there.

You might want to look at Onkyo. They offer a quality product for a really good price, although I don't believe their recievers have high current amplifiers.

Denon recievers are really good also.

  3. Ratty sam is correct about everything that he said, cause i bought a refurb unit and had scratches on the outside of the reciever but they covered it with a full 1 year warranty, But like he said sometime they will not do that so make sure you ready into it, but as far as you asking is it worth it sometimes in my case of course it saved me $200 just check into it.

  4. If they can not get it right the first time> well maybe it works correctly but...it shows you their quality control may not be all it should be.

    I'd buy from a pawn shop before I'd buy a re-manufactured item!

If the warranty is not as good or better than the original do not take the chance with-out a service agreement > adds to the price and now it is as expensive as the NEW one! Do they even offer an extended service agreement? Probabally not! Shows you they do not believe in their products either!

    Once c**p is always c**p.
