  1. Blue whales are the loudest living things on Earth.

    Each strand of baleen is about 1 metre long.

    Though they don't have the longest flippers in the whale world, they can be 3-4 metres long.

    The lung compacity of the blue whale is 5,000 litres!

    In short bursts, blue whales can swim up to 30mph.

    Blue whales have been known to kill attacking sharks and orcas with a slap of their tail or flipper.

    When fully expanded, a blue whale's mouth can hold 90 tonnes of water, krill.

    A blue whale cannot swallow anything larger than a beachball, so don't get too scared about being accidentally eaten.

    Females are larger than males, as is the case with most baleen whales.

    Blue whales sing and communicate underwater and are believed to be the loudest animals, creating sounds of 188 decibels that travel thousands of miles underwater.

    The only natural predators of Blue Whales are Orcas (Killer Whales) and Sharks which usually go after the calves and don't bother the larger whales.

    Blue whales can cross breed with Fin Whales.

    A blue whale's heart is as big as a Volkswagen Beetle.
