Facundo Arguello rallies past Eduardo Struvay into the second round – Serguros Bolivar Open 2011
World number 260 Facundo Arguello of Argentina survived second set scare to beat world number 352 Eduardo Struvay of Colombia in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the first round at the Seguros Bolivar Open in Bogota, Colombia on Monday.
The match lasted for two hours and thirteen minutes.
Struvay and the Argentinean held their serve in the first eleven games to take the score to 6-5 in favour of the latter. Arguello finally broke the ice as he claimed breakthrough in the twelfth game to win the set 7-5.
The Argentinean was lucky to win the set despite committing four double faults and delivering just 43 percent of the first serves in the opening set. Arguello compensated by winning 80 percent of the first service points and 60
percent of the second service points in the first set. However, the unseeded could not return well as he claimed just two of the sixteen first return points in the opening set. The Argentinean converted one of two break point he received on Struvay’s serve
in the first set for a 7-5 win.
Arguello was looking strong as he broke the Colombian in the second game of the second set to take a 2-0 lead. However, Struvay broke back immediately and held his next service game to equalise the score at 2-2. The Colombian broke
again in the seventh game and consolidated on it to win the set 6-4.
Struvay kept his first serve percentage at 64 percent and delivered a single ace in the second set. The Colombian sealed 26 percent of the first return points in the second set. The 20-year-old won two of the four break points
he received and succeeded in saving three of the four break points on his own serve in the second set.
After losing a tight second set, Arguello thrashed Struvay as he allowed the Colombian to claim only a single game, breaking his opponent twice to grab the set 6-1.
The Argentinean hit one ace and 45 percent of the first serves in the final set, winning a whopping 80 percent of the points on them. Arguello smacked his opponent’s serve, clinching 44 percent of the first return points in the
third set. The 18-year-old capitalised on two of the three break point opportunities he created on the Colombian’s serve in the deciding set.
Arguello is slated to meet world number 366 Matteo Marrai of Italy in the second round. The Italian upset Chilean Paul Capdeville, ranked 108th in the world, in the first round.
