Fadhilah Irfan, Anggraini Weni make their way into Malaysia Open semi-finals
It was day of double joy for Indonesia as its second Mixed Doubles team Fadhilah Irfan-Anggraini Weni also reserved its spot in semi-finals of Malaysia Open GP Gold by surpassing the duo Mohd Razif Latif-Amelia Alicia in quarter-final round on May 4, 2012.
Both contenders earned a great deal of admiration by exhibiting premium badminton skills in three games but final results of 20-22, 21-17 and 16-21 remained in favour of the Indonesians.
The victorious duo was bit scratchy in the beginning but they undid the decent start of their competitors with elevated skills in final stages of 58-minute contest.
On the other hand, the local couple showed lack of good finishing skills and frittered away their efforts.
Fadhilah Irfan-Anggraini Weni were little sluggish in the start as they could not pick up their scoring rate until 8-8 but three consecutive points took them to 11-8 before the interval.
This three-point margin magnified the impact and they placed a decent total of 16-11 immediately after the break.
However, the opposing couple Razif-Amelia levelled the lead at 16-16 with some uninterrupted rallies and then matched their rivals’ skills all the way to game point situation.
This nail-biting tussle ended when Fadhilah Irfan-Anggraini Weni clinched last two points and registered a decisive margin of 22-20.
The Malaysians stormed back in very next game with a strong reply. This time they manipulated all loop holes to corner their opponents.
Razif-Amelia took some time to get on track but they did not look back and placed a comfortable lead with 11-6 total in first half of the game.
They committed some unforced errors in later part which allowed their challengers to narrow the gap at 18-16 but they stood firm in this critical situation and bagged second set with 21-17 score on the board.
In the third and final set, both teams put all they had to avoid a woeful exit. The natives gained an immediate advantage with 7-4 total but they faltered later which triggered the collapse.
The early damage was done when Fadhilah Irfan-Anggraini Weni trapped them in master plan by reaching 11-10 and then broke their rivals’ back with well crafted strokes in last stages.
The Indonesians sealed their victory with a distinctive figure of 21-16.
