Fadhilah Irfan, Anggraini dance their way to Mixed Doubles quarter-finals – Thailand Open Update
SCG Thailand Open got another Mixed Doubles quarter-finalist when Fadhilah Irfan-Anggraini Weni of Indonesia overshadowed Sa Rang Kim-Hye In Choi in second round on June 7, 2012.
This 61-minute fight was staged in CU Sports Complex of Bangkok and both teams exhibited admirable craft while putting final total of 22-20, 15-21 and 18-21.
Irfan-Anggraini, the seven seeded duo of the event, went down in opening segment but it was just a curtain raiser to their splendid performances in next parts of the show.
Meanwhile, the scratch pair of Korea made best out of first set but knelt down in final two games.
In first set of the match, Sa Rang-Hye In matched their higher ranked rivals’ skills all the way to final moments.
Both contenders made this encounter memorable by remaining toe-to-toe until game point situation.
Initially, the Koreans got into commanding position with 8-5 and managed to maintain this decent edge in first half by registering 11-9 total.
However, the opposing couple also stepped forward after the interval and caught them at 18 but Sa Rang and Hye In survived the contest with a favourable margin of 22-20.
The Indonesians switched on the best after finding themselves one down. They employed all the experience and brilliance in game to tip the scale in their favour and successfully achieved their goal.
At the beginning of first half, they were standing at same level until 6-6 but then five consecutive points took them to an authoritative position with 11-6 at half time.
Irfan and Anggraini kept on dictating their competitors after the interval also and gradually raised their total to 18. They wrapped second segment of the show with a notable margin of 21-15.
Both contenders made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance in the decider. The match remained on knife’s edge as they snapped each other’s heels to secure the honour.
Finally, the Indonesian campaigners Irfan-Anggraini cleared this pre quarter-final test with a distinctive figure of 21-18.
Now they will have to surpass Singaporean duo Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Yu Yan Vanessa Neo to ensure their presence in top four teams of the event.
