Question:

Fading Enamel or Overreaction?

After I brushed my teeth this morning, I noticed that my bottom teeth have gone very slightly yellow (right at the base above my gums) and my two front teeth are a little yellow and the ends of them are slightly transparent.

I think I brush quite hard so I'm assuming that i've worn away the enamel. As far as i've heard, enamel doesn't grown back. So have I caused myself serious dental problems? Or am I overreacting?

  1. Sounds like your gums have receded a bit...probably from overbrushing.  You're seeing part of the tooth normally under the gumline.  Also, it's normal for the dentin of the tooth to recede over time, giving your teeth an almost transluscent look.  Your enamel is probably fine (enamel loss is very obvious and painful).
