Question:

Fading paint on car? Touch-up paint?

My car is black and it's fading from the sun in a few areas. I really don't have the money for a paint job right now so I was wondering if anyone knows of any good touch-up paints.

  1. I got some car wax from a local shop that was supposed to restore faded paint. I used it on my old black GTI. It worked really well. It looked like black glass. You had to keep up with it by waxing every few months, but it looked like a new car. I looked, but I don't have any left and I don't remember what it was called. It was in a red metal can that looked like paint thinner came in it. It smelled awful, but it worked really well. I would go to a local shop and ask if they have a wax like that they have heard good things about. I'm bummed I can't give the the brand. It worked so well, and it sounds like you have the same problem I had.

  2. get a product called color back, it is used like wax and it takes off the faded color

  3. That is called paint oxidation. Wax alone will not correct it. Like someone has mentioned, you must wash your car then follow through with claying. Afterwards, polish your car with an aggressive polish and pad like Menzerna Power Gloss with a yellow pad. Next use a less agressive polish to remove the halos left by the Power Gloss, I suggest using Menzerna PO106FA with either a orange or white pad depending on how severe the remaining halos are. Finally, use a sealant and /or wax to protect the paint from future oxidation.

  4. Touch up paint is for scratches and small spots... wait and get it resprayed.

  5. wash, dry and clay bar.
