Faf du Plessis not happy after South Africa’s series loss against New Zealand – Cricket News Update

Faf du Plessis, the South African stand-in captain, is extremely disappointed after losing the second One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series against New Zealand and admitted that the Proteas should have chased down the total after the start
they got.

The talented middle-order batsman was handed over the responsibility to lead the ODI team after the ban imposed on their regular skipper, AB de Villiers, due to the slow over-rate in the first fixture.

The hosts won the toss and elected to field first. The Black Caps came up with a strong performance and posted a huge score of 279 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets, thanks to an outstanding ton by Kane Williamson.

In reply, at one stage of the innings, the Proteas had scored 167 runs for the loss of just one wicket, with Graeme Smith and Colin Ingram looking to take the game away from the visitors. However, the home team crumbled under pressure and were bowled out
for merely 252 runs in the last over of the match.

Du Plessis is devastated that five of his batsmen were run out, making things extremely easy for the Kiwis. The right-handed batsman was all praise for the centurion, Williamson, and claimed that his team will bounce back hard in the last match of the series.

He expressed, "We didn't play well again, they got 20 runs too many. Five run-outs is unacceptable. At 167-1 more often than not you should win the game, we as a batting unit must accept the responsibility of not playing as well as we should have. It's a
young team, so hopefully we learn from it. Kane played brilliantly, he was cramping, and he didn't throw his wicket away. We'll definitely come back fighting."

Williamson, for his unbeaten 145 off merely 136 balls was named as the Player of the Match. He expressed his delight during the post-match presentation ceremony and said, "Nice to contribute like that in such an important game. It's been tough playing the
No.1 team in the world. Elliott was outstanding, all the others chipped in."
