After a disastrous showing in the Test series, where the hosts whitewashed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 and company by three games to none, there was a lot of criticism on the national team, with some of the former cricketers and sporting experts calling for the omission of the coach and the captain.
However, the Green Shirts bounced back hard in the T20 series and dismantled the hosts by a massive margin of 95 runs in the second match, with the first fixture been washed out at Durban.
Having won the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first and posted a mammoth total of 195 runs on the board for the loss of seven wickets, thanks to a superb 86 by their skipper, Hafeez. In reply, the Proteas failed to live up to the expectations and the whole team was bowled out for merely 100 runs in only the 13th over of the innings, with Gul claiming five wickets for just six runs.
While expressing his views after the encounter, South Africa’s T20 captain admitted that his side could not play according to their potential. However, he seems to be impressed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887’ little cameo of 36 runs.
“Probably the only thing was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 [de Villiers],” he said. “We would expect AB to work anywhere in a line-up because he has got the skill to attack the bowlers but it was good to see him for well in the opening position.”
Du Plessis further added that Hafeez and Gul changed the course of the game in favour of the tourists.
“We know that the shorter the version of the game, the more one individual can win it,” the South African T20 skipper added. “With Umar Gul, it was just a case of us trying to win the game and going hard at the run rate upfront. I think it was definitely [Mohammad] Hafeez's 86 that changed the game for them.”
