Du Plessis, the 27-year-old Pretoria all-rounder, who plays for Nashua http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856 in South Africa's domestic set-up, has been in tremendous form right from the start of the 2012 IPL and is the leading run scorer for the franchise with a tally of 398 runs in
13 games. He also bears an impressive strike rate of above 130.
The Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Charles-Hudson-c44308, said that du Plessis’ impressive form in the domestic one-day tournament and lately in the cash rich Indian Premier League earned him selectors’ nod for the upcoming Team A assignments.
"Faf has been enormously impressive both in the Proteas' Castle Lager ODI squad and more recently in the Indian Premier League where he has shown how much he has matured as an international cricketer," said Hudson while speaking to the media reporters on
Wednesday.
"Du Plessis has been a leader for most of his cricketing life and the fact that he has not had much opportunity to do this at the franchise level is more a reflection on the fact that national players are not available for their franchises
on a regular basis," the CSA convener added further.
Du Plessis, who plays for Nashua Titans in South Africa's domestic set-up, has been named to captain the South Africa 'A' team in both the formats after his splendid display for two-time IPL winners Chennai at the top of the order.
The South Africa A team will play two first-class matches against Sri Lanka A in Durban from June 30 to July 10, before leaving for Zimbabwe for a triangular one-day series.
