  1. There was a competition between the government and books because they both kind of competed for the brains of the citizens.

The government banned books because books had many provoking thoughts that made the citizens wonder if their society was alright.

In this book, the government had no other choice than to ban the books; otherwise they would lose this "competition" and the citizens would overthrow the government's corrupt ideas.
