Fai Yin Wong – Shevon Jemie Lai nail Mixed Doubles title at Smiling Fish International Series 2012
Malaysia’s Fai Yin Wong and Shevon Jemie Lai made their presence felt to the world when they nailed their first ever Mixed Doubles title at the Smiling Fish International 2012 in Thailand, on Sunday, May 6.
In the final battle, Fai Yin and Shevon overpowered their compatriots Wee Gieen Tan and Mei Kuan Chow in an emphatic fashion.
Fai Yin and Shevon, who were ranked at number two in Mixed Doubles main draw of the tournament, showed their brilliance and did not lose any game in the final match to grab the title.
The higher ranked Fai Yin and Shevon took just 32 minutes in the court and won the match in straight sets with a decent margin on the board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Wee Gieen and Mei Kuan put up good resistance but not enough to stop their rivals from winning the battle.
In the first set, both sides started it well by playing aggressive badminton but Fai Yin and Shevon took over the control by accelerating their speed in all areas of the court.
In the meanwhile, Wee Gieen and Mei Kuan could not dominate the pace of rallies as they lost their control and remained struggling to find a good rhythm.
Until the break, the second seeded couple managed to set up an impressive lead on the score board.
After the break, Fai Yin and Shevon continued playing flawless badminton without showing any respect to their team-mates. They remained on track and took the game with a margin of 21-13.
In the second game, Wee Gieen and Mei Kuan changed their strategy and started to take the bird early from net.
They remained positive in the court and remained successful in matching the speed of their higher ranked country-mates.
Until the one-minute break, the score remained tight on the board as no couple could establish a comfortable lead.
After the break, both couples did not show any sign of retrieve as they continued playing aggressive badminton and reached at 21-21.
At this crucial stage, Fai Yin and Shevon showed impressive performance and score two points in a row to win the set with a margin of 23-21.
Fai Yin and Shevon emerged as title winners by taking the final match with a 21-13 and 23-21 score on the board.
