Question:

Failure to maintain lane?

I was in an accident on Monday. I was in the left hand lane, needed to get over into the right hand lane to take the next exit, turned on my blinker, checked my blind spot, saw an SUV there but determined I had enough space and switched lanes. Well I got over into the lane but as I slowed down to take the exit they hit me. I'm being charged with failure to maintain a lane. I had to go to the hospital right after the accident and the police never took a statement from me, they only took the other driver's statement.

I was just wondering if anyone knows ANYTHING about this offense? Possible cost of fine, points on license, will I be required to take a defensive driving class? I have a required court date in a couple weeks, I don't know what I'm pleading yet but I have a lawyer to represent me. I have a clean record besides 2 minor tickets (one was for failure to inspect, and the other was failure to make repair).

Anyone know anything?
