Fainted almost 24 hrs ago, and still feel unwell?

I had a blood test yesterday at the Hospital and I ended up fainting. I lay on a bed for about 15 minutes before being ushered out by a Matron type nurse. I sat in the coffee shop for a further 20 mins with a coffee (and my supportive OH) before having the energy to walk to the car. I spent some time in bed when I got home and had a sleep. After dinner I still felt a little shaky, sore head & nausea.

I had a good and full nights sleep, and have gone to work today. But I still feel very low on energy and nauseus/shaky. I've had some sweet coffee and a biscuit but still feel very weak and really want to just lie down for a while.

I looked up the type of faitning and it says "Vasovagal syncope" The temporary loss of consciousness in a particular kind of situation i.e. any painful or unpleasant stimuli, such as giving a blood donation or watching someone give one, watching someone experience pain, watching/experiencing medical procedures sight of blood, occasions of slight discomfort, such as dental and eye examinations

It doesn't say how long it takes to recover.

Does anyone know, or have any experience of still feeling unwell almost 24 hours after the fainting?

  1. I have suffered form this myself. Passed out twice trying to give blood and often feel faint if I am giving a sample.

I've not noticed any effects that last longer than a couple of hours, though.

Edit: Maybe it's you being worried about it that is causing these longer lasting effects!

See your doctor if  the symptoms continue.

  2. Go see your GP, it should put your mind at ease. Try to relax and tell your Dr you dont want any bloods taken !!!

  3. maybe you have low blood pressure? or even a lack of Iron, if I were you I would drink pure orange juice and eat more red meat!
