Question:

Fainting from drawing blood through needle?

So recently just a few days ago I was at the doctor and he had to draw blood from me. Now I'm not so excited when I have some doctor poking me so I tried to look away but I kept looking at it.

Now usually when they take blood, I just get a little woozy. But this time, I was about to faint. I'm looking away then I look back and everything starts getting black.

Now I'm not afraid of needles or anything, but I'm just a little worried that I nearly pass out from a little needle. Is this normal? what can I do to prevent this?

  1. This is a common problem. First of all don't watch. Second you should tell them that you have a tendency to get dizzy and faint. They will have you lie down when they are drawing the blood. It helps. good luck.

  2. Its a Vasovagal episode, which is common for some people.

All you can do is some deep breathing while the blood is being drawn... start singing a song in your head or think about what you would do if you won a million dollars. Taking your mind off of it when its being drawn is all you can do.
